GISCP Privacy Policy Effective Date: May 6, 2026
GISCP.org (the “Platform,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is operated by Hills GeoLocates Inc based in Ontario. This is in accordance with the minimum requirements of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and other applicable Canadian laws.
By accessing or using the Platform in any manner, you expressly acknowledge and agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must immediately cease all use of the Platform.
1. Information We Collect
a. Information You Provide
We collect:
- Full name, email address, phone number, mailing address, and any other contact details
- Resume, employment history, education, credentials, certifications, portfolio, skills, project details, publications, and any other professional or personal information you submit
- Any content, messages, posts, comments, or communications you upload, send, or post
- Payment information (processed by third-party providers)
b. Social Login and Third-Party Information
If you sign in via LinkedIn, Google, Facebook, or any other service, we may receive:
- Name, email, profile image, headline, summary, experience, education, and any other data those services make available
- We do not post to your social accounts without separate explicit consent, but we reserve all rights to import, cache, and display your public and authorized data indefinitely.
c. Automatically Collected Information
We automatically collect:
- IP address (and inferred location), device identifiers, browser type/version, operating system, referring URLs, pages visited, time spent, clickstream data, and all interaction logs
- Usage patterns, search queries, profile views, and any analytics or tracking data
- Cookies, web beacons, pixels, local storage, and similar tracking technologies (see Section 8)
We may combine information from all sources to create enriched user profiles.
2. How We Use Your Information
We may use your personal information for any purpose that benefits the Platform or the Protected Parties, including but not limited to:
- Operating, maintaining, improving, debugging, and securing the Platform
- Creating, displaying, and promoting public professional profiles to employers, recruiters, users, and third parties worldwide
- Enabling search, matching, ranking, and discovery by any user or third party
- Internal research, analytics, machine learning, AI training, product development, and statistical purposes (data may be de-identified or aggregated but we make no guarantee of anonymity)
- Communicating with you (including marketing, promotions, newsletters, and transactional messages) via any channel
- Preventing fraud, abuse, security threats, or violations of our Terms of Service
- Enforcing our rights, defending against claims, and complying with (or resisting) legal processes
- Any other purpose we deem reasonable or necessary, including sale, merger, or transfer of business assets
3. Consent
Your use of the Platform constitutes clear, express, and informed consent to the collection, use, disclosure, storage, processing, transfer, and retention of your personal information as described in this Policy. This consent is ongoing and survives account deletion or Platform use termination unless and until we determine otherwise in our sole discretion.
You may withdraw consent at any time by sending a formal request to the contact below. However, withdrawal is subject to legal, contractual, and operational restrictions. Withdrawal may result in immediate termination of your account and does not require us to delete data already collected, processed, or disclosed. We are under no obligation to delete derived, aggregated, or backup data.
4. Sharing and Disclosure of Information
We may disclose your information to:
- Any employers, recruiters, users, or visitors to the Platform (public profiles and any data you choose to make visible)
- Service providers, vendors, contractors, and partners (including hosting, cloud storage, analytics, marketing, AI/ML, payment processors, and professional advisors) — we require only reasonable (not absolute) contractual protections
- Affiliates, current or future business partners, investors, or acquirers
- Legal authorities, regulators, or courts when required or when we, in our sole discretion, deem it advisable
- Any other third party where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of the Protected Parties or the Platform
We do not “sell” personal information in the narrow sense prohibited by certain laws, but we retain broad rights to share, license, or monetize data in any manner consistent with this Policy.
5. Data Storage, Security, and International Transfers
Your data may be stored and processed in Canada, the United States, or any other jurisdiction where we or our service providers maintain facilities. By using the Platform, you consent to such transfers.
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards as determined solely by us. However, no security measure is perfect. The Protected Parties expressly disclaim all liability for any unauthorized access, disclosure, breach, loss, corruption, or alteration of your data, to the maximum extent permitted by law. You assume all risk associated with transmitting and storing your information on the Platform.
6. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as we deem necessary or useful for the purposes outlined in this Policy, to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, or protect the Protected Parties. Deletion requests are subject to our sole discretion and may be denied or only partially fulfilled. Backup and archival copies may be retained indefinitely.
7. Your Rights
To the extent required by applicable law, you may request:
- Access to the personal information we hold about you
- Correction of inaccurate information (we reserve the right to determine what is “inaccurate”)
- Deletion of your data (subject to numerous exceptions, including backups, aggregated data, legal holds, and legitimate business needs)
All requests must be submitted in writing to the contact information below and may be subject to identity verification and administrative fees. We will respond within the time required by law or as soon as reasonably practicable in our sole judgment. We are not required to provide data in any specific format.
8. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies, tracking pixels, and similar technologies extensively for session management, analytics, advertising, personalization, and security. By using the Platform, you consent to their placement. You may disable cookies via browser settings, but this may severely impair or prevent Platform functionality, and we bear no responsibility for resulting issues.
9. Third-Party Services
The Platform integrates with LinkedIn, Google, Facebook, and other services. Your interactions with those platforms are governed solely by their privacy policies. The Protected Parties disclaim all responsibility and liability for the practices of any third parties.
10. International Users
If you access the Platform from outside Canada, you consent to the transfer, storage, and processing of your data in Canada (and other jurisdictions) and acknowledge that your rights may be different from those available in your jurisdiction.
11. Limitation of Liability and Indemnification
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, the Protected Parties shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, punitive, or exemplary damages arising from this Privacy Policy, data handling, breaches, or Platform use.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Protected Parties from any claims, losses, liabilities, damages, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the Platform, your data, or any violation of this Policy or applicable law.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy at any time, with or without notice. Your continued use of the Platform after any changes constitutes your binding acceptance of the revised Policy. We encourage you to review the Policy periodically, but we have no obligation to notify you of updates.
13. Governing Law
This Privacy Policy is governed exclusively by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of laws principles. Any disputes shall be resolved exclusively in the courts located in Ontario.
